Australia’s domestic travellers get some air fare relief in December

Australian government data reports domestic air fares have trended lower this month. Read More » The measure of air fares conducted by the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) said restricted economy fares recorded the largest decrease, falling by 11.6%, or 9.9 index points, to 75.6 points. The business class category fell, 9.7%, or 5.5 index points, to 56.9 points. The best discount category recorded the smallest increase, 6.1%, or 5.6 index points, to 86.4 points. “The series is a price index of the lowest available fare in each fare class weighted over selected routes,” the BITRE report said. “It does not measure real airline yields or average fares paid by passengers.”
