China Airlines (CAL) has confirmed its chairman, Su-Chien Hsieh, passed away suddenly on January 16. Read More » A 46-year veteran of the flag carrier, Hsieh led his management team and employees through the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent recovery that delivered the airline’s best results in its 65-year history in fiscal 2024. “The passing of chairman Hsieh represents a tremendous loss for China Airlines and the airline industry. His contributions and achievements will be indelibly engraved in the history of China Airlines,” the company wrote in the statement. The Ministry of Transportation has appointed CAL president, Kao Shing-hwang, acting chair.
