IndiGo considering wet-leasing of long-haul aircraft

IndiGo CEO, Pieter Elbers, said the India-headquartered LCC is looking at operating long-haul aircraft through the wet-lease market to more quickly capture growing passenger appetite for overseas travel. Read More » The airline has ordered 30 A350-900s with deliveries due to commence in 2027 and also has signed for 69 A321XLRs scheduled to begin arriving at the LCC this year. "India’s businesses are expanding internationally, our citizens are exploring more destinations than ever and our diaspora continues to grow," an approved transcript of Elbers comments at the company’s recent financial results presentation states. "There are still certain key markets underserved and this represents a vast reservoir of untapped potential. We are exploring interim solutions for earlier induction of long-range aircraft to our fleet through wet leases," Elbers said, and added the airline is exploring route and network opportunities for these potential additional aircraft.
