Global airline association announces double digit passenger growth in 2024

The overall passenger load factor of 83.5% for the 12 months to December 31 also was an industry high. “Last year (2024) made it absolutely clear people want to travel," IATA director general, Willie Walsh, said. “Looking ahead in 2025, there is every indication demand will continue to grow, albeit at a moderated pace of 8.0% that is more aligned with historical averages."
The Asia-Pacific delivered the highest RPK growth of the six regions monitored in the IATA report, at 16.9%, as well as the fastest capacity expansion worldwide, at 12.3%. Opportunities for growth are high as international RPKs remain 8.7% below 2019 levels, IATA said.
