India and China ministers make progress in restarting direct flights between the two countries

In Beijing last week, China vice foreign minister, Sun Weidong, and India foreign secretary, Shri Vikram Misri, said their respective governments were working to re-commence flights between the world’s two most populated nations. Read More » "The two sides agreed to resume direct flights between the Chinese mainland and India, support the coordination and promotion of the competent departments of the two countries and facilitate personnel exchanges and mutual dispatch of journalists between the two countries," China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. The latest developments follow discussions between China’s foreign minister, Wang Yi, and India’s minister of external affairs, S Jaishankar, on the sidelines of the Group of 20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro last year. Relations between China and India have been strained since 2020 when border disputes in the Himalayas resulted in the deaths of Chinese and Indian soldiers.
