Global air cargo demand increased 11.3% in 2024

Global air cargo had a record year in 2024, with cargo tonne kilometres (CTK) up 11.3% compared with 2023, the International Air Transport Association has reported. Read More » Capacity, or available cargo tonne kilometres (ACTK), was higher by 7.4%. "Air cargo was the standout performer in 2024 with airlines moving more air cargo than ever,” IATA director general, Willie Walsh, said. "Importantly, it was a year of profitable growth." But the airline lobby group added air cargo expansion will moderate to 5.8% this year. “Economic fundamentals point to another good year for air cargo with oil prices on a downward trajectory and trade continuing to grow," Walsh said. The Asia-Pacific, which accounted for a 34.2% share of air cargo in 2024, recorded 14.5% CTK growth, leading all six regions monitored by IATA's cargo report. ACTKs rose 11.3%.
