Review of security launched after Avalon airport breach

Read More » On March 6, a 17-year-old male allegedly breached security at Avalon airport by entering the airfield through a hole in the perimeter fence. The individual then boarded a Jetstar Airways aircraft carrying a shotgun where passengers and flight crew tackled him on board. The teenager was arrested and charged with several offences. “On Friday, I directed my department to write to Avalon and all similar airports to inform them they will be required to conduct risk assessments to determine what security upgrades are necessary to prevent incidents like this one,” Burke said.
