Australia’s domestic economy class travellers are paying much less for their flights this month compared with a year ago, local data reveals. Read More » The measure of air fares published by Australia’s Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) said restricted economy fares recorded the largest decrease, falling by 34.4%, or 29.3 index points, to 55.9 points. The best discount category was down 21.7%, or 17.9 index points, at 64.7 points. But the measure of business class fares rose 2.1% to 54.7%. “The series is a price index of the lowest available fare in each fare class weighted over selected routes,” BITRE said. “It does not measure real airline yields or average fares paid by passengers.”
