Bangkok Airways is planning renewal of its aging fleet in anticipation of a tourism boom created by HBO’s television series White Lotus, Bloomberg News reports. Read More » The Thai regional carrier will tap Airbus, Boeing and Embraer for at least 20 single aisle jets with options for another 10 narrow-bodies, Bangkok Airways CEO, Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, said. The airline’s goal is at least new 30 jets in the next four to five years including the leasing of some aircraft, he said. Bangkok Airways owns the only airport on the island of Koh Samui, one of the locations for the latest season of White Lotus. The popularity of the show is forecast to create an influx of tourists to Thailand with the government predicting a record 40 million visitors to the country in 2025. Bangkok Airways is forecasting it will fly 10%-20% more passengers this year compared with the 2.7 million passengers it flew on routes to Koh Samui in 2024. With the planned 1.5 billion baht (US $45 million) renovation of the airport, Bangkok Air has secured approval to increase its flights to Koh Samui from 50 a day to 73.
