Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet are to ban passenger use of power banks inflight and will limit passengers to carrying 10 batteries on board with a combined capacity of no more than 100Wh. Read More » For power banks with 100Wh to 160Wh capacity, passengers can take on board a maximum of two devices. Inflight, power banks must be removed from carry-on luggage, placed in an easily visible place and not used to charge mobile devices. Vietnam Express reports banning power bank usage by the two carriers follows an incident aboard a Hong Kong Airlines flight bound for Hong Kong from Hangzhou. The aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing on March 21 after a power bank in a passenger’s bag exploded and caught fire. On March 26, AirAsia announced it will restrict usage and charging of power banks on all its flights from April 1. The LCC said passengers may hand carry power banks that do not exceed 100Wh. Power banks between 100Wh and 160Wh require approval at check-in. On board, the charging devices will be prohibited in overhead compartments and must be stored in the seat pocket or under the seat. It also will be forbidden to use power banks to charge other portable electronic devices in flight, AirAsia said.
