China Eastern Airlines halved losses in latest fiscal year

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) has reported an annual net loss of 4.2 billion yuan (US$582 million) for fiscal 2024, close to half the 8.2 billion yuan loss it booked in 2023. Revenue improved 16.1%, to 132.1 billion yuan for the 12 months, the company said. “Looking ahead, demand for passenger travel will continue to grow globally,” CEA said. “At the same time, the industry faces many challenges and pressures. Fierce competition in the domestic market and the diversion to high-speed rail will continue to affect the market operation of airlines.”
