Vietjet signs US$300 million agreement with AV AirFinance to help fund fleet expansion

Earlier this week, Vietjet and AV AirFinance signed a US$300 million agreement; one of several deals, for a total of US$4 billion, the airline has negotiated to fund fleet acquisitions. Read More » Vietjet is scheduled to add near 300 jets to its operations leading to 2030. This year it will start accepting its first batch of 737 MAXs from its US$24 billion order for 200 Boeing aircraft announced in Vietnam in February 2019 and attended by U.S. president Donald Trump. It is in discussions to increase the 2019 order, the LCC said. In addition to its collaboration with Boeing, Vietjet has established partnerships with GE, Pratt & Whitney and Honeywell with the contracts written with the U.S. OEMs calculated at US$50 billion. Current negotiations are expected to add US$14 billion to that number. “I am steadfast in my commitment to working tirelessly and fostering global partnerships that help bridge cultures, economies and technologies between Vietnam, the United States and the wider world,” Vietjet chair, Dr Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, said. These high value contracts are poised to contribute significantly to reducing the trade imbalance between Vietnam and the U.S., Vietjet said.
