Virgin Australia will refund 61,000 passengers for fees the airline overcharged for booking changes

Virgin Australia (VA) has apologized for overcharging at least 61,000 passengers who booked and travelled on its flights between April 2020 and March this year. Read More » The average refund is A$55 (US$60) a customer, The Guardian newspaper reports, but some customers have been told they are eligible for a $200 per person payment, the newspaper reports. VA said it had reported the error to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). “At Virgin Australia, we want to do the right thing and that means acknowledging when we get things wrong and fixing it,” the carrier’s spokesperson said, and added “any amounts guests elect not to claim will be donated to charity”. VA is conducting an internal investigation to determine why VA customers were charged incorrect itinerary change fees.
