All lives suspected lost in weekend Trigana Air crash

Rescue crews are nearing the site of the Trigana Air crash in remote Jayapura, Eastern Papua, after the ATR 42-300 crashed in bad weather on August 16, with 49 passengers and five crew on board. It sought air traffic control’s permission to descend 10 minutes before landing, but the plane did not arrive at its designated airport. Villagers found the aircraft and said it had crashed into a mountain, Agence France Press (AFP) reported. “We strongly suspect it is a weather issue. It is not over-capacity as the plane could take 50 passengers,” Trigana Air’s director of operations, Captain Beni Sumaryanto, told media.
