Japan Airlines flew 3.2 million domestic passengers in May

Japan Airlines (JAL) said passengers flown on its domestic network increased by 12.7% last month from 2.8 million air travellers in the same month last year. Read More » Domestic available seat kilometres dipped 1.1% and passenger load factor was 10.2 percentage points higher at 80.7%. The oneworld alliance member also booked double digit growth across its international network in May with 660,540 passengers, an increase of 13.5%. International capacity expanded 3.5% and passenger load factor climbed to 86.7%. JAL Group said its LCC, ZIPAIR Tokyo, flew 5.5% more customers in the month, at 115,649 passengers but that the traffic figures presented a mixed picture at its Spring Japan. The LCC delivered 220.2% growth in international passengers, to 81,298, but domestic passengers carried declined 67.7% to 16,057 in the 31 days. JAL Group said the LCC is focused on international growth and has scaled down its domestic operations.
