Taoyuan International Airport Corp (TIAC), operator of Taiwan’s biggest airport, Taipei Taoyuan, said passengers processed in the 12 months to December 31 should exceed 2019 throughput due to strong air travel recovery and several long weekends across the region in the second half of the year. Read More » At May 31, 19.57 million passengers had passed through the airport, which was 96.5% higher than 2019 for the five months. By June 4, the number had exceeded 20 million, TIAC vice president, Lee Chun-te, said. It is estimated travellers arriving and departing from the airport in July and August will rise 9.5% year-on-year to 8.53 million travellers compared with 8.52 million passengers in the same months six years ago. “Changes in the global economy, travel habits of domestic passengers, international politics and the exchange rate of the New Taiwan dollar against other currencies could influence overall air passenger volume,” Lee told Taipei Times.
