South Korea updates rules on transporting batteries on board

Read More » Instead it is requiring insulation tape fastening as part of updated in-flight safety measures for battery packs, Yonhap Agency reports. The revision will take effect on September 1. The government introduced a safety management scheme for portable battery packs in March, following an Air Busan aircraft fire incident in January. Airlines will provide insulation tape for portable batteries at check-in counters, security checkpoints, boarding gates and inside the cabin. In addition, airlines must carry fire containment bags and heat-sensitive stickers on their aircraft. Heat-sensitive stickers will be attached to overhead bins so cabin crew and passengers can detect rising temperatures early. The ministry will conduct inspections throughout September to ensure airlines comply with the new rules.
