India’s Purnea Airport to welcome IndiGo as first airline customer

Purnea’s new airport in Bihar State in eastern India has announced it will accept its first commercial flight on September 15 when IndiGo begins flying to the city from Kolkata. Read More » The three times a week rotation, which will be flown with ATR 72 turboprops, has been established with the support of India’s regional air connectivity scheme, UDAN. "We are proud to strengthen regional connectivity with the addition of Purnea, Bihar to our growing network," IndiGo head of sales, Vinay Malhotra, said. "We also are honored to be the first airline to operate from this newly launched airport. With this route, we reaffirm our commitment to making air travel more affordable and accessible as well as unlocking opportunities in Tier-II and Tier-III cities across India." The airport terminal, which is adjacent to an India Air Force Station, also is reported to be preparing for a Star Airlines schedule that will operate from Ahmedabad to the new airport.
