Capacity increases, the first A220 Qantas international service from Brisbane to Wellington and a new direct Jetstar Brisbane-Queenstown route will be the linchpins of the Qantas Group’s trans-Tasman route expansion in 2026. Read More » From next February, Qantas Airways will begin flying A220s three times a week between Brisbane and Wellington replacing the E190s now operating the rotation along with some 737 services. Also, Jetstar will operate direct three times a week seasonal Brisbane-Queenstown from next June to October. “This is the fifth trans-Tasman service Jetstar has launched or announced this year and is our seventh new international route from Queensland marking 2025 as Jetstar’s biggest Queensland and Tasman expansion yet,” Jetstar Group CEO, Stephanie Tully, said. The LCC also will increase Brisbane-Auckland to double daily from ten times a week and Melbourne-Christchurch to year round daily flights. Additionally, Sydney-Auckland will be flown 12 times weekly, an increase from eight flights a week at present and Qantas Airways will operate two more rotations a week between Sydney and Christchurch in February and March. “It has been a huge year of growth for the Qantas Group in New Zealand. This latest expansion will provide even more choice and convenience for customers and an important boost for tourism economies on both sides of the Tasman,” Qantas International CEO, Cam Wallace, said.
