Korean Air (KAL) is selectively operating two flights, Seoul Incheon-Kobe and Seoul Gimpo-Osaka Kansai, with SAF produced in South Korea. Read More » KAL is incorporating a 1% SAF blend in the fuel powering KE731 from Seoul Incheon to Kobe and KE2117 from Seoul Gimpo to Osaka Kansai. KAL plans to use the 1% SAF blend on around 90 flights to Kobe and 26 flights to Kansai in the months ahead. The expansion of the use of domestic SAF - produced from cooking oil and manufactured by HD Hyundai Oilbank and GS Caltex - follows KAL’s trial of the blend on Incheon-Tokyo Haneda from August 2024 to August this year. "SAF, which can reduce life-cycle carbon emissions by up to 80% compared with conventional jet fuel, is considered a key component of the aviation industry’s de-carbonization strategy," KAL said. "This initiative reflects Korean Air’s commitment to driving sustainable aviation in Korea and supporting global efforts to achieve carbon neutrality."
