South Korea to mandate SAF use on outbound international flights from 2027

The South Korean government will require the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) on all international flights departing from the country’s domestic airports from 2027, Yonhap News Agency reports. Read More » The transport ministry will mandate a minimum blending ratio of 1% SAF on outbound flights. After 2027 the government will gradually increase the requirement to 3% - 5% in 2030 and 7%-10% in 2035. The policy will support demand for SAF in Korea, helping local energy and chemical companies to develop such products and supply networks, the government said. "The introduction of SAF is not only about meeting climate goals but about creating business opportunities. By building the market, Korea can reduce its reliance on fuel imports and support the growth of its aviation and energy industries," a government official said. On the same day, the government announced HD Hyundai Oilbank and Korean Air had signed a SAF supply deal.
