Two dead after freighter veers off runway at HKIA

Two security staff at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) died yesterday (Monday October 20) after an AirACT 747-400F freighter, registration TC-ACF, veered off Runway 07L and crashed into a ground patrol vehicle before skidding into the sea. Read More » Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) said the two security staff were found in the patrol vehicle after it was rescued from the water. They did not survive the accident. "At the time of the incident, the two airport security staff were keeping watch at a designated observation post in accordance with established procedures," AAHK said. "Airport Authority Hong Kong extends deep condolences over the fatal incident and will provide the families with all necessary support." AirACT was operating the flight from Dubai to Hong Kong on behalf of Emirates. The four crew on board survived the accident and there was no cargo on board. The Hong Kong Air Accident Investigation Authority said it was investigating. The airport’s north runway 07L/25R was closed yesterday, while the other two runways remained operational.
