LCC IndiGo said it was looking forward to taking delivery of nine A321XLR aircraft in calendar 2026 from its order book for 40 of the type. Read More » The India-headquartered airline last week greeted the arrival of its first A321XLR, registration VT-NLA, which is configured to carry 195 passengers in a two-class layout comprising 12 IndiGoStretch seats and 183 economy seats. The launch route for the type will be Mumbai-Athens on January 23 - a new destination for the airline - followed by Delhi-Athens the next day. The aircraft will also be used on IndiGo’s existing destinations such as Denpasar and Istanbul. Looking further ahead, IndiGo was expected to open up new destinations in East Asia and Europe with the long-range narrowbody. "IndiGo is honoured to be the first Indian airline to welcome the Airbus A321XLR into its fleet – an important milestone as we prepare to redefine long-haul travel for India," IndiGo CEO, Pieter Elbers, said. "The advanced capabilities of this aircraft enable us to reach newer regions across the globe and further strengthen India’s position as a key player in international aviation." Airbus India and South Asia president, Jürgen Westermeier, said: "By opening up mid-to-long-haul routes that were previously unreachable by single-aisle aircraft, this delivery serves as a catalyst for IndiGo’s international growth while significantly enhancing India’s global connectivity."
