Air India receives first "line-fit" 787-9

Air India has taken delivery of the first 787-9 which has been line-fit with the airline’s latest cabin products during assembly at Boeing’s production line in Everett in the U.S. state of Washington. Read More » The aircraft, registration VT-AWA, touched down at Delhi just before 0300 local time on Sunday, following its 17-hour ferry flight from Everett. It was expected to enter commercial service next month. "The aircraft features bespoke cabin interiors installed directly on Boeing’s production line, the details of which will be unveiled in the coming weeks," Air India said. "The new cabins of the Boeing 787-9 will become the new benchmark across our Boeing 787 fleet." The Star Alliance member said the retrofit program for the existing 787-8s in its fleet was well advanced, adding about 60% of its widebody fleet was expected to have the modern interiors by the end of 2026. Air India said it was taking delivery of five more widebody aircraft - A350-1000s and 787-9s - this year.
