Air India has released images of its latest cabin products to debut on the airline’s 787-9 fleet. Read More » The first 787-9 aircraft to be line-fit with the new interiors during assembly arrived from Boeing’s Everett facility earlier this month. The 30 Elevate Ascent business class seats feature headphone pairing via bluetooth and wireless charging ports. There are also 28 premium economy seats in a seven-abreast configuration offering 38-inch pitch, as well as 238 economy seats in a 3-3-3 layout. Both economy and premium economy seats are from Recaro, while the in-flight entertainment system is from Thales. "Though nearly 100 new and leased aircraft have already joined the Air India group’s fleet since privatisation, this is the first to be designed by and for Air India," Air India CEO, Campbell Wilson, said. "The new cabin interiors on this aircraft will soon become the standard across our entire Boeing 787 fleet as, in addition to 19 more production aircraft, all 26 of Air India’s existing Boeing 787-8 aircraft are being retrofitted with the same new cabin interiors and entertainment systems. The retrofit programme is well underway, with the first upgraded aircraft due to return to service in the coming weeks and the remainder of the fleet by mid-2027." The Star Alliance member’s first flight for the 787-9, registration VT-AWA, will be the Mumbai-Frankfurt route from February 1.
