India’s carriers started 2026 with 4.4% domestic passenger growth

Airlines across India flew 15.2 million domestic passengers in January, compared with 14.6 million air travellers transported in the same month last year. Read More » Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGCA) data shows LCC IndiGo held onto its top spot as the country’s dominant domestic carrier with 9.7 million passengers, or 63.6% of the local market. Runner-up was Air India Group with 4 million passengers (26.5% market share) followed by Akasa Air at 729,000 customers (4.8% market share). Akasa Air’s domestic passenger load factor topped the table at 93.2%, followed by IndiGo (87.7%) and Air India Group at 86.5%.
