March 18th 2026
Air India has completed the restoration of a 777-300ER which had been grounded for six years due to unserviceable systems and old parts. Read More » The aircraft, registration VT-ALL, had been sitting in Nagpur since February 2020 and was one of 30 grounded aircraft in the fleet when Tata Group took ownership of the airline in 2022. It was the last of the 30 aircraft to return to active service following the Star Alliance member’s significant aircraft restoration program over the past four years. Flight tracking websites showed VT-ALL returned to commercial service on March 15 on the Delhi-Mumbai route. Getting it back to flying required 3,500 man-hours, the installation of about 3,000 components, 4,000 maintenance tasks and 80 mandated modifications, which took place between May last year and now. "With VT‑ALL’s return, Air India has successfully revived every single one of the 30 previously grounded aircraft," Air India said. "These aircraft, now fully operational, stand as proof of India’s growing capabilities in high‑complexity aircraft maintenance and Air India’s unwavering commitment to engineering excellence."
