ANA, JAL report lift in passenger bookings for Golden Week holidays

Japan’s two major flag carriers, All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Japan Airlines (JAL), have reported strong bookings for the country’s upcoming Golden Week which begins tomorrow (April 29) and runs through to Wednesday May 6. Read More » ANA said bookings for its domestic flights during the week-long holiday were up 16% at 1.1 million, from 919,766 in the 2025 Golden Week. Capacity, or available seats, was 0.6 of a percentage point higher at 1.3 million, while the reservation rate had increased 10.7 percentage points to 80.6%. The Star Alliance member said its international flight bookings were up 16.5% at 207,410, while available seats grew by 6.7% to 251,060 and the reservation rate was 6.9 percentage points higher at 82.6%. ANA said both domestic and international flight bookings for the holiday period were doing well.

At JAL, its domestic flight bookings for Golden Week were up 8% at 784,440, while the number of available seats was flat on the prior year and the reservation rate was down 5.7 percentage points at 77%. The oneworld alliance member’s international flight bookings for Golden Week were 3.3% higher at 169,302, with capacity up 3.2% at 207,088 and reservation rate little changed at 81.8%, compared with 81.7% last year. JAL said the Golden Week reservation rates for its domestic and international bookings were the highest since the COVID-19 pandemic.
