Melbourne Airport forecasts passenger traffic to reach 75 million by 2047

Melbourne Tullamarine Airport is expected to double the number of passengers passing through its terminals over the next two decades to about 75 million travellers a year, from about 36 million in the 2024-25 financial year. Read More » The forecast was included in Melbourne Airport’s draft master plan published this week. "With international passenger numbers reaching record levels in FY26 and Melbourne’s population continuing to grow, we are investing in infrastructure to meet growing demand for aviation services," Melbourne Airport CEO, Lorie Argus, said. "Since the 2022 master plan, we have made significant progress delivering the infrastructure needed to support passengers, airlines, businesses and the Victorian community." Public submissions on the draft master plan are open until November 4. In Australia, airports are required under legislation to prepare a 20-year master plan detailing the strategic vision of the facility, including future land uses, types of permitted development, and noise and environmental impacts, every five or eight years.
