Airlines resuming flights to Jakarta as city’s airports reopen

Read More » The Jakarta airports, as well as others in the region, were closed due to the volcanic activity from Mount Anak Krakatau, which resulted in an ash cloud across Indonesia’s Sunda Strait. Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport had been closed on Sunday and Monday. Both reopened yesterday. Lion Air said it was gradually resuming flights and advised passengers to check the status of their flight before proceeding to the airport. Singapore Airlines (SIA) said it had added relief flights between Singapore and Jakarta for passengers impacted by the airport closure. "SIA will progressively rebook affected customers on the next available flight as flights between Singapore and Jakarta resume," SIA said. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation in Indonesia said it was continuing to monitor conditions in partnership with airlines, air navigation service providers and weather monitoring bodies.
