September 30th 2026
Thai Airways International (THAI) CEO, Chai Eamsiri, has apologised to passengers impacted by scores of cancelled flights and thousands of checked bags being stranded at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport following heavy flooding in the Thailand capital. Read More » The severe weather left the airline without adequate workers to cover operations at the airport due to staff being unable to get to the airport for their shifts. While the airline received support from Thailand’s defence forces and handed over some work to third-party ground handling providers at Suvarnabhumi, the shortage of licensed engineers and specialist staff left the airline with little option other than to cancel flights. Chai told local media THAI planned to reduce flight operations by 30%, or about 30 daily departures, from Suvarnabhumi on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. The airline was also working to deliver delayed baggage to passengers as quickly as possible. More than 20 people have been killed in the flooding through Bangkok, local media reported.
