Qantas Airways: looking to rebuild market share

Qantas will upgrade one more return Sydney-Hong Kong service to an A380 flight, increasing A380 services on the route to five a week. A new route, a twice a week Perth-Auckland service, will operate in December and January, while all Sydney-Christchurch flights will be re-scheduled to connect with more flights out of Sydney as well as complementing Emirates Airline services on the route.

Brisbane-Los Angeles will be upgraded to a daily service, a move Joyce said will provide valuable feeder services from the carrier’s regional and domestic networks into Brisbane.

Qantas and Emirates have aligned fares on the trans-Tasman route and switched to code-shares on 130 flights each week between Australia and New Zealand. These changes were partly facilitated by the Sydney-Christchurch and new Perth-Auckland routes, said Joyce.
