Gulf Air confirms executive team
May 20th 2016
Gulf Air’s board has officially promoted Maher Salman Jabber Al Musallam from deputy and acting CEO to permanent chief of Bahrain’s flag carrier. Read More » Simultaneously, the carrier confirmed acting CFO Sahar Ataei, acting CCO Ahmed Janahi and acting CTO Jamal Hashim.
Al Musallam became acting CEO in 2012. Gulf Air never explained why he served in an acting capacity for three and a half years. This is particularly curious, given Al Musallam oversaw a major restructuring that reduced the carrier’s losses from more than $530 million to $165 million in 2014 after he took the job. Gulf’s 2015 results are expected to be released in June, with its performance once again improved, although still in the red.
“I am honored to continue serving the Kingdom of Bahrain’s national carrier and, with the airline’s executive management team’s ongoing support and efforts, realizing its ongoing positive transformation,” Al Musallam said following his official appointment.
