Meng said Li should apologise to travellers for causing “extensive flight delays that have affected tens of millions of passengers. If they cannot put themselves in someone else’s shoes then they should step down from their posts,” said Meng, the host of a hugely popular dating show.

Closure of Chinese airspace by the nation’s military is usually blamed for the high number of delayed departures at Chinese airports. However, recent detailed studies have revealed the poor performance of airline and airport managers in managing departures could account for up to 42.3% of flight delays across the country.
