Mainland carriers return to Qunar
June 24th 2016
Mainland heavyweights, Air China and China Eastern Airlines, have resumed selling tickets through Chinese online retailer, Qunar Cayman Islands Ltd, following a near three-month boycott. Read More »
In April, the two state-controlled airlines, alongside China Southern Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Beijing Capital Airlines, Tianjin Airlines, and Lucky Air formed an informal alliance to boycott Qunar. They said the retailer offered subpar customer service after it repeatedly failed to notify customers of flight cancellations and delays. The carriers also complained about arbitrary fee increases and fare discrepancies at Qunar, the Mainland’s second-largest online travel agency.
The resumption of commercial ties between Qunar and the airlines has been credited in part to the Civil Aviation Administration of China's (CAAC’s) policy change on airline service charges. The new ruling stipulates fixed service fees, rather than linking them to the ticket price. Travel agents are no longer allowed to impose any other in-house service fees.
