Vietnam Airlines selects new CEO and signs a pilot training deal with CAE

Hanoi-headquartered Vietnam Airlines (VN) has selected Duong Tri Thanh as its new president and CEO, succeeding Pham Ngoc Minh, who has led the flag carrier for eight years. Read More » Minh this week became chairman of VN’s board, following the resignation of former chairman Pham Viet Thanh.
New CEO Duong has been VN’s deputy general manager, as well as Jetstar Pacific’s chairman, since 2012.VN owns 70% of Jetstar Pacific, with the remainder held by Qantas Airways. Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) recently confirmed it will take an 8.8% stake in majority government-owned VN.
At Farnborough, flight simulator manufacturer, CAE, said it had reached an agreement with VN to train pilots for A320, A350 and B787 aircraft until 2026. At the air show, CAE announced new orders for nine full-flight simulators from seven customers, including CAE-AirAsia joint-venture company, Asian Aviation Centre of Excellence and China’s Chongqing Yu Xiang Aviation.
CAE also extended an existing A330 training contract with Asiana Airlines until 2023 and it renewed a deal with India’s Jet Airways through to 2021.
