The Singapore Airlines (SIA) budget offshoot said it would fit out the B787s used to fly to Greece with a different configuration from aircraft used on its existing routes, i.e. it will reduce the number of Scootbiz seats from 21 to 18, allowing for the economy seat count to grow from 314 to 329. The aircraft will also have eight crew rest bunks.
“Guests have requested us to fly to Europe for a while, and Scoot is excited to finally oblige,” Budget Aviation Holdings chief executive, Lee Lik Hsin, said in a statement.
Parent SIA dropped Athens in 2012 after more than 40 years of operations, but returned in 2014 with flights throughout the peak summer season.
Last week, AirAsia X added Istanbul and Barcelona to its route map, although it has not officially announced them as new destinations.
Other long-haul budget flights from the Asia-Pacific include Jetstar’s Melbourne-Honolulu route and Eurowings’ Phuket-Cologne schedule.
