T’Way signs LOI for 2 -900ERs and Air Seoul expands network
November 18th 2016
South Korean low-cost carrier T’Way Airlines has inked a letter of intent (LOI) for two B737-900ERs, CAPA has reported, citing Kim Hyung Ki, a vice-president at the airline. Read More »
Kim said the aircraft’s extended range and capacity will enable T’Way to tap new markets in Southeast Asia and grow its passenger boardings at slot-constrained airports such as Hong Kong’s Chek Lap Kok.
T’Way was founded in August 2010. It now operates a fleet of 15 B737-800s to thirty destinations from its bases at Seoul Gimpo, Incheon and Daegu.
The LCC last week added a thrice-weekly service between Muan and Kitakyushu. It is the only carrier operating the route.
T’Way will launch a five-weekly Daegu-Cebu from December 15 and a daily Incheon-Saipan route from December 23, becoming the fifth South Korean to fly to the Mariana Islands following Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, Eastar Jet (added daily service on October 24) and Jeju Air.
Separately, Asiana low-cost protégé, Air Seoul, will add a thrice-weekly Incheon-Ube A321 route starting November 28. The new entrant launched international operations on October 7. It took over parent Asiana’s unprofitable, low-yielding leisure routes.
Air Seoul now serves 9 destinations from its Incheon base, including Macau, Siem Reap, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Shizuoka, Takamatsu, Toyama, Yonago and Kota Kinabalu on-board two single-class A321s.
