AirAsia is first international carrier to fly to India’s Bhubaneswar

The capital of the East Indian state of Odisha, Bhubaneswar, will receive its first international flight in April, four years after Bhubaneswar Biju Patnaik Airport was accorded international status. Read More » Malaysia’s AirAsia will launch a four-weekly Kuala Lumpur-Bhubaneswar A320 flight on April 26 after Indian authorities agreed to provide subsidies and other incentives, including the eradication of value-added tax on aviation fuel, for the AirAsia flights.

Bhubaneswar, an emerging information technology and education hub, is one of India’s fastest developing cities. It will be AirAsia’s 16th destination in India. "We are thrilled to be serving Bhubaneswar direct, a huge market that no other airline is serving directly from Malaysia,” said AirAsia Berhad CEO, Aireen Omar.

The airport receives scheduled Air India, Vistara, IndiGo Airlines and GoAir passenger flights from ten domestic cities, including Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Varanasi and Vishakhapatnam.
