HNA Group buys 82.5% of Germany’s Hahn airport

Germany’s federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate this week said it had agreed to sell its 82.5% equity in the airport to China’s HNA Group, reportedly for €15 million. Read More » This is Germany’s second attempt to sell Hahn. Last year, a deal with a dubious so-called aviation and logistics firm from China collapsed after the buyers failed to make payments.

Hahn is a former military base and now serves as a major hub for low-cost carriers Ryanair and Wizz Air, as well as a regional cargo hub. This is HNA’s first foreign airport acquisition. On the Mainland, the group controls 13 airfields, including its Haikou Meilan International Airport base and airports in Sanya, Yichang and Anqing.
