Boeing has scheduled the first flight of the B787-10 Dreamliner for Friday, March 31, from its North Charleston facility in South Carolina. The -10 will be the largest Dreamliner variant, following the -8 and -9 variants. Read More » The -10 is 18ft longer than the -9 and seats 330 passengers in a standard two-class configuration. Subject to changing weather conditions, the first flight will take off from Charleston at 10am and return after 4hrs 30 minutes of in-flight testing.

The B787-10 will go head-to-head with Airbus’ A350XWB series, although in terms of payload and range it will be competing against the A350-900 variant, rather than the larger -1000.

The A350-1000, on track for delivery to launch customer, Qatar Airways, in October, is entering the market as a direct replacement for the successful B777-300ER. The B787-10 will not be delivered until mid-2018. Boeing has secured 149 orders for the largest Dreamliner, including commitments from Etihad Airways (30), Singapore Airlines (30) and EVA Airways (18).
