Beibu Gulf Airlines becomes IATA member

HNA Group’s Guangxi Beibu Gulf Airlines, better known as GX Airlines, has joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Read More » IATA's vice-president for North Asia, Zhang Baojian, and GX chairman and president, Wu Chongyang, chaired the signing ceremony.

GX’s Zhang said his airline welcomed the IATA membership as it strived to extend cooperation with other carriers, including foreign ones. IATA membership also gave the carrier an opportunity to learn from global airlines, which would accelerate its “internationalization progress”.

Founded in 2015, Nanning-based GX Airlines has rapidly built a fleet of three A320s and 15 Embraer E190s, which it aimed to expand to 50 aircraft by 2020. The airline is a joint venture between Tianjin Airlines (70%) and the Guangxi Beibu Gulf Investment Group (30%).

It has carried 2.5 million passengers since its first flight February 2015 and has developed a network of 65 routes to 50 destinations.
