In February, Virgin terminated its thrice-weekly Sydney-Abu Dhabi B777-300ER flights and reduced its Brisbane-Los Angeles service to six a week. The revised schedule freed up extra hours on its five -300ERs and facilitated the restoration of Melbourne-Los Angeles.

After previously pulling out of all long-haul flights from Melbourne, the carrier will launch a Melbourne-Hong Kong A330-200 flight from July 5 in partnership with one investor, China’s HNA Group.

In February, Virgin Australia reported an underlying profit, excluding one-offs, of AU$45.9 million (US$35 million) for the second quarter to December 31.
