Iran Air confirms ATR order, expedites B777 deal

The Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development issued a statement on Monday saying it had finalized an order for 20 ATR72-600s for state-controlled Iran Air following protracted negotiations with engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney. Read More » ATR itself did not confirm the deal.
Iran minister, Asghar Fakhrieh Kashan, said the first four ATRs are due to arrive in Tehran by April 25, followed by nine more before year-end. The remaining seven turboprops will be delivered in 2018. t remains unclear whether Tehran will exercise its options for 20 -600s.
Separately, the minister announced Iran Air would receive its first B777-300ER in May, more than a year ahead of schedule, because of a cancellation order from Turkish Airlines. Turkish is suffering from massive overcapacity following last year’s attempted coup and the nation’sgeneral political and social instability. In February, it said it would take delivery of a single B777-300ER this year after the carrier converted two --300ER orders to B777 freighters.
Iran Air stands to benefit from Turkish’s problems in the form of extra discounts in addition to an already heavily discounted deal. The -300ER in question was being repainted with the Iran Air livery this week. The delivery will mark the first U.S.-built aircraft delivery to Iran since the Islamic Revolution in 1979.Tehran has signed for 80 Boeing jets and 100 Airbus jets.
Iran Air has received an A321 and two A330-200s, the result an order cancellation from Avianca. Last week, Iran Asseman Airlines signed a firm order for 30 B737 MAXs, plus 30 options.
