Engine “issues” halt B737 MAX test flights

U.S. manufacturer Boeing this week suspended all B737 MAX test flights after engine provider, CFM International, flagged a potential quality issue with the low-pressure turbine discs in the CFM LEAP-1B engine, Boeing said. Read More »

The OEM said its test pilots have not reported any engine problems, but that it halted the flights "out of an abundance of caution" and is working with CFM to determine the root of the problem. "The step is consistent with our priority focus on safety for all who use and fly our products," Boeing said, stressing it was a quality issue; not a design flaw.

The manufacturer said it still plans to begin B737 MAX deliveries this month, beginning with launch customer Malindo Air.
