Al Baker to chair IATA in 2018

Outspoken Qatar Airways CEO, Akbar Al Baker, will become chairman of the board of governors of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) after next year’s annual general meeting (AGM) in Sydney. Read More » Al Baker will succeed Singapore Airlines CEO, Goh Choon Phong, who took up the role in June.

“I look forward to working alongside the board of governors to champion passenger rights and improve security standards across the industry, as well as continuing to promote the rights of freedom of flight for all,” Al Baker said.


Qantas group CEO announces leadership team changes

Early this week, Qantas Group CEO, Alan Joyce, announced executive leadership changes in a new structure that “that would help the company keep delivering for customers and shareholders”.

CEO Qantas International, Gareth Evans, will succeed Jayne Hrdlicka as CEO of Jetstar Group and Hrdlicka will move to CEO of Qantas Loyalty and Digital Ventures, including innovation. Other appointments are: Alison Webster CEO Qantas International, Lesley Grant Group Executive of People and Culture, Olivia Wirth Chief Customer Officer, Andrew French General Counsel and Company Secretary who will add running the Office of the CEO to his responsibilities and CEO Qantas Domestic Andrew David who will also head Qantas Freight, Catering and Airports.


SITA appoints strategy chief

SITA on Tuesday announced that Jacques Demaël has joined the organization as senior vice-president for strategy and business support. He will report directly to SITA CEO, Barbara Dalibard.

Demaël will drive SITA’s overall strategy as well as several key strategic initiatives. He will be responsible for leading a transformation programme to align the organization, processes and skills to support the firm’s ambitions and will help define the organization’s technology and innovation roadmap.

SITA CEO Dalibard said: “SITA offers a remarkable value proposition for its customers across the air transport industry. I look forward to working with Jacques in delivering a transformation plan that will provide a clear roadmap to boost the next phase of SITA’s growth, capitalizing on our unique market position at the centre of our industry.” 

Demaël said: “It is an exciting time to join SITA. The air transport industry is thriving and SITA is in a prime position to advance this growth by providing a portfolio of products and services that help the industry become more efficient and passenger focused.
