Star Alliance, the 28-member global alliance headquartered in Frankfurt, is negotiating with Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) to co-locate its carriers in the same terminal area. Read More »

If the talks are successful, Star plans to install wide-ranging self-service technology at HKIA designed to reduce waiting time and meet new-generation traveller expectations. Star believed up to 70% of passengers will use the planned automated process.

Hong Kong is one of Star Alliance’s main hubs in Asia. HKIA is served by 18 Star carriers: Air Canada, Air China, Air India, Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, Asiana Airlines, Austrian, Ethiopian Airlines, EVA Air, Lufthansa, SAS, Shenzhen Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, SWISS, THAI, Turkish Airlines and United Airlines. Combined they offer approximately 129 daily flights to and from 34 destinations in 17 countries.

Star Alliance’s first “Connecting Partner”, Juneyao Airlines, has four-weekly services between Hong Kong and Shanghai’s Pudong.

Last year, Star co-located its members at Narita Airport in Tokyo. It also has all its carriers housed under one roof at London Heathrow’s Queen’s Terminal.

At Heathrow and Narita, Star offers its Gold Track premium passenger service, but this is unlikely to materialize at HKIA because of the “egalitarian approach” of many Asian airports.
