The next stages in the manufacturing process are painting the aircraft’s livery, system checks and fuelling and engine runs. SIA is due to take delivery of the B787-10 in the first half of 2018. The premium airline plans to operate the -10 on medium-haul routes.

SIA is the launch customer of the -10. The Star Alliance member has 30 of the type on firm order. In February, it signed a Letter of Intent for 19 additional B787-10s. The carrier has selected the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 TEN engine, including Rolls-Royce’s TotalCare services package, to power its Dreamliners. The alternative would have been General Electric’s GEnx-1B engine. First delivery to SIA is on track for May, 2018.

“Boeing is excited to have finished final assembly of the first 787-10 Dreamliner for Singapore Airlines," said Dinesh Keskar, senior vice president, Asia Pacific and India sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “With its unprecedented efficiency, greater capacity and the Dreamliner's known preferred passenger experience, the 787-10 will be an important part of the airline's future fleet.”

As an 18-foot (5.5 metre) stretch of the B787-9, the -10 promises  25% better fuel burn and emissions than the airplanes it will replace.

The B787-10 is not selling particularly well. At press time, Boeing had 177 orders for the variant, including the aforementioned 30 for SIA, 30 for Etihad Airways, 18 for EVA Airways and three for All Nippon Airways (ANA).
