The agreement was signed in November 2015. Since then, both airline groups have expanded capacity between Singapore and Germany and Switzerland, including the introduction of SIA-operated flights between Singapore and Dusseldorf in July 2016. The resumption of daily SWISS flights between Singapore and Zurich commenced in March 2017. Lufthansa also has announced plans to re-introduce Singapore-Munich from March 2018.
From this week, all flights operated by SIA, Lufthansa and SWISS between Singapore and Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich will be part of the two groups’ revenue-sharing agreement.
The Lufthansa and SIA groups have also significantly increased their codeshare ties, with more than 130 city pairs on offer between Europe, Southeast Asia and the Southwest Pacific.
“We are pleased to launch our joint venture with Lufthansa Group, which has provided a strong foundation for us to work together to enable more flight frequency and enhanced travel options for customers of both airline groups. This joint venture demonstrates what we can achieve with the right partner, and we look forward to working even closer with Lufthansa Group,” said Tan Kai Ping, SIA senior vice president for marketing planning.
In March, Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific Airways, a oneworld member, signed a co-operation agreement with the Lufthansa Group that will see the airline codeshare on flights operated by Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian Airlines to a number of destinations in continental Europe. Reciprocally, the Lufthansa Group will codeshare on Cathay Pacific services to four of the airline’s destinations in the Southwest Pacific.
