Hong Kong’s second largest carrier, Mainland-backed Hong Kong Airlines, is considering a B787 Dreamliner order, the airline’s chief marketing officer, George Liu, told the South China Morning Post. Read More »

“To fly long haul, we have to introduce new aircraft. Right now we are still all-Airbus, but if we are talking to Boeing about 787s, that [is a] possibility,” Liu said. “We always have been talking to Boeing and Airbus about possibilities.”

For now, Hong Kong Airlines remains an all-Airbus operator with 24 A330s, an A350 and eleven A320s in service. It has 15 A350s on direct order and signed lease contracts for an additional six -900s with various third party lessors. The airline’s first XWB is on lease from AerCap.

Hong Kong Airlines general manager for service delivery, Chris Birt, told Orient Aviation the carrier hoped to receive two more A350s from AerCap this year and a fourth in early 2018, before commencing delivery of 15 direct purchased aircraft.

The carrier has launched routes to Auckland, Australia’s Gold Coast and Cairns and Vancouver. It will add Los Angeles and San Francisco from December and March, respectively.
